I could feel how
the protagonist has been broken, disheartened and distraught. The story took
quite a while to pick up the pace while the protagonist processed all the
defeat, failure, fear, grief, hopelessness and shock. I waited and read on
until she begins to stand up for herself and others who believed in her fight.
It was amazing how she was surrounded by outstanding allies and that she is not
fighting alone. I am in awe of the idiosyncrasy that even in her abrasive
almost enigmatic unpredictable personality, the protagonist exudes a natural
charisma, a burst of courage and hope that moves people to rise up. It is quite
amusing that she is not even aware that she has this effect on others. I loved
that she has someone wise to turn to. When the protagonist found herself, the
pace picks up and becomes exciting. Even more so when they began to execute the
battle. Each character has their own amazing personality, fight tactics and
skills that were well exemplified. All their fighting abilities worked well
towards completing the battle and the protagonist’s main goal until the end.
Just when the plot becomes more intensely serious, there were bursts of
well-placed humor. I enjoyed these momentarily breather.
There are a lot of interesting and shocking plot twists, awesome collaborative fight scene, deaths and love interest. Although the light moments of emotional almost romantic tension kind of made me
blush, it did not feel forced. It fits just right - like a glove into the scene. The battle included psychological warfare. The turmoil between the protagonist and her love interest is heartbreaking. It breaks down the protagonist many times but there was comfort in light romance and ally chemistry between unlikely clashing characters. I find the hacking and entrapment tactics impressively brilliant. I felt quite perplexed at first whether one character died as implied in the previous series in Catching Fire
but his name keeps coming up in Mockingjay a few times. I realized this character is confirmed to have left the story. Nonetheless his work continued on to be significant in battle. Just when I thought that the battle is on a losing end, there were many instances of resilience. I felt closure when the battle and the psychological warfare have been conquered. Even though the ending was quite abrupt and vague, the thrill in the middle part of the story and the stellar characters made up all for it. The odds are in her favor, indeed.
I am glad you have read this far. If ever you have read the Mockingjay, who is your favorite character? What is your favorite scene? If not, which Fantasy novel would you recommend? You can always me know anytime.
