Catching Fire written by Suzanne Collins is an absolute
adrenalin rush. It is fast paced than the first book The Hunger Games. It has
enough tension to keep you on your toes. It leaves you holding on to your
breath as the story unfolds. It kept me wanting to know what happens next. Catching
Fire has an air of dark mystery and ominous tone. There was an impending dark
cloud that is waiting to unravel. I feel my curiosity rising as to how the main
character and supporting characters would handle their circumstances. I enjoyed
the spectacular imagery of the clothes, distinct features, survival skills and
remarkable personality of the characters. . The visuals of the arena is
outstanding and the fight scenes were action packed. Catching Fire has a
survival of the fittest ring to it but surprisingly, I am fascinated that some
of the characters become allies towards protecting one of them. It made
fighting and death worth it to have a chance to break the injustice. It is
endearing how keeping the promise to stay alive sparked courage among the
people to take action and fight back. The symbolism is impeccably a delight how
it was subtly omnipresent and sprang back at me at a perfect time in the plot.
It was strategically well played.
I was shocked on one frightening turn of events so much that I would respond similarly with the main character. I continued to read on hoping to find the part where the odds turn in their favor. I am amazed that although Catching Fire has a heavy tone on it, there was a little unexpected part for a bit of humor. It gave me rest from the emotional rollercoaster that I got myself into. I did not see the hint of romance coming with all the turmoil. I found it quite awkwardly misplaced in the plot. Although I can understand the slightest tendency to respond by developing romantic feelings toward someone. It could be one of those finding love in unexpected ways kind of idea. It gave me a comforting realization and assurance that there is a glimmer of hope, humor and love despite any situation. If we look harder with a positive perspective. Above all, it seemed love is the greatest and prevailing source of the will for survival.
